WoW TBC Classic Profession Guide
In WoW TBC Classic, there are several professions to choose from. Professions serve as a way to make money, buff parties, and be extremely powerful raid tools. Need to jump to boss adds to take aggro? Well, engineering has you covered. Need to craft powerful armor? Blacksmithing is the way to go.

In this guide, we will show you what professions are best suited together and what professions you should take for your class.
WoW TBC Classic Professions
To start this guide out properly, we will outline the professions by primary and secondary.

Primary Professions
In WoW TBC Classic, each character can choose between two primary professions from the list below:
●Alchemy
●Engineering
●Enchanting
●Blacksmithing
●Mining
●Herbalism
●Leatherworking
●Tailoring
●Skinning
●Jewelcrafting
Primary professions are broken up into two groups - gathering professions and crafting professions.
It is often recommended to take a crafting profession alongside a gathering profession that can benefit each other, such as:
●Herbalism - Alchemy
●Blacksmithing - Mining
●Leatherworking - Skinning
●Tailoring - Enchanting
●Engineering - Mining
●Jewelcrafting - Mining
The reason for combining professions like this is because primary professions can be costly. In WoW TBC Classic it is important to be efficient with gold. Combining gathering professions with crafting professions keeps costs low and profits high. The secondary purpose is to help level your crafting profession with your gathering profession.
Secondary Professions
Secondary professions consist of:
●Cooking
●First Aid
●Fishing
These professions do not share a slot with your primary professions and can be taken altogether with no limitations. It is recommended to take all secondary professions as they provide great benefits.
Cooking
Cooking provides the well-fed buff which increases stats based on the food you consumed. Another great perk of cooking is that you don’t need to purchase food from vendors.
First Aid
First aid is extra healing that you can use during combat to either heal yourself or any hurt allies.
Fishing
Fishing is the most profitable of the secondary professions as it allows characters to catch both fish and raw materials situated in fishing pools throughout Azeroth and Outland.
Primary Profession Breakdown
Each profession has its uses. We will create a small breakdown of what to expect from each primary profession ranging from Gathering professions to Crafting professions.
Gathering professions
Herbalism
Herbalism is the profession that deals with collecting herbs throughout Azeroth and Outland. Herbalism is an extremely useful gathering profession and can be profitable.
Selling herbs on the Auction House is a great way to make money in WoW TBC Classic. Herbalism works hand-in-hand with Alchemy.
Mining
Mining is a profession that deals with the collection of raw materials. To do mining, characters will have to buy a mining pick. Mining is sought out for its necessity between the crafting professions. Unlike herbalism which shares its spot with alchemy, mining works with Engineering, Jewelcrafting, and Blacksmithing. Because of its rarity and wide diversity between crafting professions, mining is the most profitable profession in WoW TBC Classic.
Skinning
Skinning is a profession that deals with Leatherworking and Tailoring. To do Skinning, you must have a skinning knife and find beasts throughout Azeroth and Outland to skin. These beasts can also be found in dungeons. Skinning is a profitable profession as it provides raw materials for Tailoring, Blacksmithing, and Leatherworking. The leathers farmed from beasts sell for a great amount on the Auction House. Skinning is the best profession for early-level gold farming.
Crafting Professions
Engineering
Engineers turn raw mining materials into fun and effective gadgets. Engineering is known as the PvP and hardcore raiding profession for the utility it provides. Engineers can craft things from smoke bombs to grappling hooks. Engineering is widely respected as the most expensive profession alongside Enchanting and Jewelcrafting. On the flipside, Engineering is also quite lucrative as they can craft items needed for quest completion which can be sold on the Auction House.
Jewelcrafting

Jewelcrafters specialize in creating gems that empower gear. They also craft rare necklaces and rings. Materials used in Jewecrafting can be received from rare drops and mining. Jewelcrafting is difficult as it requires expensive materials to level it up. Jewelcrafting can be lucrative at the late game as players will have to buy your gems off the Auction House for a high price. (Check the price on SSEGold, it will definitely surprise you!)
Alchemy
Alchemists use herbs to craft potions and elixirs. Alchemy is also used to transmute materials into rare items used by other professions. The potions and elixirs are useful for all forms of gameplay in World of Warcraft and therefore have a lucrative spot on the Auction House.
Leatherworking
Leatherworkers use leather from skinning to craft leather and mail gear. This gear is useful as it can provide the best slot items for pre-raid gear. This also provides the unique opportunity to sell crafted leather/mail on the Auction house.
Tailoring
Tailoring is the use of cloth materials to craft gear and other useful items such as bags and embroideries. Tailoring is the only profession in WoW that does not fully require a gathering profession to level up, therefore making it the cheapest profession.
Blacksmithing
Blacksmiths use iron and various other mining materials to create plate and mail armors. Blacksmithing has two paths, weaponsmith, and armorsmith. Choosing each path has unique benefits for your class. Weaponsmith allows for powerful late-game weapon crafting and armorsmith has unique armors for late-game.
Enchanting
Enchanters use materials from sacrificed uncommon items to buff gear. Enchanting is the most expensive profession in WoW TBC as the Enchanter needs to disenchant every green they come across. Disenchanting green and blue items yield raw materials that are used to buff other gear. This can be profitable as you can charge to empower other players’ gear. Enchanters can also craft wands.
