The Most Powerful & Iconic Items of WOTLK Classic
This list will not necessarily be in the order of most powerful in terms of damage and stats but rather in overall accessibility, stats, and a variety of other factors that make it take its number. Without further ado, let’s get into the list:
Number 9 - Bryntroll, The Bone Arbiter
Bryntroll, The Bone Arbiter is quite possibly the strongest weapon for Death Knights. This weapon’s stats are high, while the bonus is the biggest pull for the weapon; “Chance on Hit: Steals 2138 to 2362 life from target enemy.” This bottom text means that there is life steal on this weapon, and with Death Knight’s arsenal of life-stealing abilities, this weapon is a no-brainer as one of the strongest weapons for them. Another powerful class with this weapon is Warrior (Arms and Fury); since warrior fundamentally has little to no life steal, this weapon forms an essential survival item for Warriors. Fury Warrior can equip two Bryntroll, The Bone Arbiters, and make for some of the most powerful PvP or Arena weapons with its life steal.
Bryntroll, The Bone Arbiter can be obtained from the ICC (Ice Crown Citadel) 25-man raid (Both heroic and standard.)
Number 8 - Nibelung
Nibelung is number 9 on this list, and for a good reason, Nibelung has great stats for any caster, three gem sockets, and a socket bonus. But the real reason Nibelung makes it to this list is the bottom text, “Your Harmful spells have a chance to cause you to summon a Val’kyr to fight by your side for 30 sec (Proc Chance: 2%, 250ms cooldown.)” The bottom text means that you can summon a Val’kyr, which deals additional damage and heals for 25% of damage, but that’s not the only great thing about this item, as you can summon up to 3 Val’kyrs at once. Nibelung increases damage output by upwards of 10%, depending on the class. Speaking of classes, Shadow Priest and Boomkin will fight for priority over this item as AoE and DoT damage has a higher chance of summoning these Val’kyrs to fight for you.
Nibelung drops from Lady Deathwhisper in 25-man ICC heroic (or Standard).
Number 7 - Librarian’s Paper Cutter
Making it to number 7 is the Librarian’s, Paper Cutter. This item may not seem all that powerful compared to the other items on the list, but it is an early - easy to get - item with incredible Rogue potential. The attack speed is a whopping 1.30, which allows for easy combat point generation, poison application, and damage output, making it one of the best early game weapons for Rogue and Feral Druid.
Librarian’s Paper Cutter is easily obtained through Halls of Lightning random drop chance from mobs.
Number 6 - Deathbringers Will
Deathbringer's Will is an iconic trinket due to the second equipped text; “Your Attacks have a chance to awaken the powers of the races of Northrend, temporarily transforming you and increasing your combat capabilities for 30 sec.” This item is quite possibly a necessary PvP trinket and will see everyone farming it, making it a solid choice for number 6 on this list (If you don't want to spend too much time on farming, buying WotLK Gold will be a good choice).
Number 5 - Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings
For all you healers out there, Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings is for you. We couldn’t make a list without forgetting about our healers, and Val’anyr is one of the strongest healing items in WOTLK Classic. The stats are outrageously good, but the best part about the weapon is the bottom text; “Equip: Your healing spells have a chance to cause Blessing of Ancient Kings for 15 sec allowing your heals to shield the target absorbing damage equal to 15% of the amount healed.”
Let’s break that down a little; this weapon gives a shield to your healing target upwards of 15% of your healing done; this applies to shields too. All healers will fight over this weapon as it can benefit all classes equally.
Number 4 - Glorenzelg, High-Blade of the Silver Hand
Glorenzelg, High-Blade of the Silver Hand, is one of the harder weapons to get on this list, but it is worth getting due to its high stat value and socketed gems. This Sword is a reward for defeating the Lich King in ICC and is, for some, the strongest weapon of WOTLK Classic.
Number 3 - Darkmoon Cards
Darkmoon cards are the first item you can immediately pick up on the release of WOTLK Classic. These cards (trinkets) provide major early-game benefits while being difficult to replace due to the stat benefits. This solid trinket is number 3 on this list.
Number 2 - The Time-Lost Proto-Drake
The Time-Lost Proto Drake is one of the most iconic mounts in WOTLK Classic and has players searching, patrolling, setting alarms, and having kill timers for it. This elusive drake earns itself a spot on this list for how rare and iconic it is.
Number 1 - The Battered Hilt
The Battered Hilt is possibly the most iconic item on this list, as it can be randomly retrieved from all ICC dungeons. If you are lucky enough to win this item, you will be sent all around Azeroth, completing a long list of quests for the ultimate reward. Once completed, you can choose between 7 weapons (two 2-handed swords and two 1-handed swords along with three maces) with high stats and are - for some classes - the strongest weapons you can get.
