PoE Map Guide: Best Path of Exile Maps to Farm

In this article you will get a brief introduction to PoE map, learn about Path of Exile best maps as well as which specific maps to farm.

For those of you are not familiar with PoE (Path of Exile), it is an online action RPG which launched in March 2019, that is designed around a strong focus on its in-game item economy (buying and selling items at the marketplace), PVP and offers deep character customization. Grinding Gear Games, the developers, also advertise their game as being one that is NOT pay to win. Path of Exile is very similar to the likes of Diablo.

I found myself first playing Path of Exile on Steam when it first launched and then made the switch to PS4. It would be amazing if it got remastered for the PS5 like Diablo II did. In PoE, you can choose between seven different character classes. The “Pure” Classes are the:

Marauder

Ranger

Witch

Meanwhile, the Hybrid Classes include the:

Duelist

Templar

Shadow

Scion.

Later on, you can further improve your character as every base class has 3 possible Ascendancy Classes with the exception of the Scion. For example; the Marauder can potentially ascend to become a Berserker, a Juggernaut, or a Chieftain, allowing for much more versatile gameplay and builds. Equipment and gear in Path of Exile have stat boosts and can improve both passive and active abilities.

They also have sockets allowing you to socket gems into them, adding further increases and boosts. In my opinion (everyone is entitled to their own opinions, right?), Path of Exile allows for more character customization any other online Action RPG. Its character customization is just simply unrivaled.

Similar to Diablo’s Rifts, Path of Exile, features maps, an endgame activity available to players who have finished the main storyline. And in this article, I will go over the best Path of Exile maps you can farm, whether it’s for XP or PoE currency.

PoE Maps are the primary way to farm for most high-level loot in PoE. In order to unlock and use maps, you will first have to finish the games main campaign. You will start earning maps from around Act 8 but will only be able to use them once you reach the Templar Laboratory in Act 10.

To use your Path of Exile maps, you will need to interact with the Map Device inside the Laboratory. Once you have slotted the map in the device 6 portals will open and here you will fight monsters on the way to the end where a unique boss in each map waits for them. Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? (Diablo I’m looking at you…)

Certain maps in PoE have increased XP gains which increase the speed of POE leveling. Below are some of the Path of Exile best maps to take advantage of this to farm XP and level up quickly.

Item: Altered Distant Memory.

PoE Maps can be upgraded following a simple recipe – three maps of the same type (copies) can be sold to a vendor in exchange for one map that is one tier higher. Very similar to runes from Diablo. In total, there are 16 tiers. Maps can also be modified. Modifying a map will change the properties of the map, also making it more difficult and at the same time allows for an increased number of items to drop. There are several other maps as well:

Unidentified Maps – These will give you a +30% quantity bonus. Keep in mind that whilst running unidentified maps, specific modifiers will not be visible, making it somewhat difficult to prepare loadouts. I highly recommend taking a strong character into these maps otherwise you will struggle. Unidentified maps can be obtained as map drops, by corrupting an identified map or by upgrading 3x magic or rare maps of the same base type at a vendor.

Corrupted maps – Like most other items, maps can be corrupted using a Vaal Orb.

Once a map becomes corrupted, it can get one of the below properties:

1)Nothing can happen other than the map receiving the corrupted status

2)Increase by one map tier, and change the base type to one proper for the new tier, and randomize the affixes.

3)Reroll into a rare map with up to eight random affixes.

In addition to these effects, all bosses of corrupted maps have a chance to drop Sacrifice Vaal Fragments or Vaal Skill Gems. You cannot use currency to modify a corrupted map in any way.

Shaper/Elder influenced maps - These maps contain additional Shaper or Elder enemies and can drop Shaper or Elder influenced items. Bosses drop Shaper and Elder map fragments when defeated.

Blighted Maps – These maps drop from blights and contain battles and items unique to the blight league.

The following items will increase the speed and efficiency of which you run through the maps, allowing you to farm more, quicker.

Kaom’s Primacy - This weapon offers a significant boost to your damage, allowing you to kill enemies quicker which means you will finish the map quicker allowing you to run more in a shorter period of time.

Greed’s Embrace - This item offers a massive boost to your item drops.

Goldwyrm – Use this with Greed’s Embrace! One of the downsides from Greed’s Embrace is you will receive decreased movement Speed of -5%. Goldwyrm will negate this effect.

Perandus Blazon - This item will help improve your item drops.

Sadima’s Touch - This item will help improve your item drops.

If you have finished the main PoE storyline, want to farm for orbs or high-end loot, consider running maps. Whether you farm for maps or shape them, remember the above tips. They will help you clear the maps quickly, whilst also increasing the items that you receive.
