Best and Worst Classes of Dragonflight: World of Warcraft

Since the launch of the ninth expansion on 28th November 2022, Dragonflight is pleasantly surprised all players across the globe with a new character of Dracthyr Evoker, refreshing talent trees, intricate profession systems, and a new Dragonriding feature. With newly added attributes and a well-written storyline, Dragonflight is said to be the best World of Warcraft expansion of recent years.

 

Although Season One usually limits the amount of opened instances and, therefore, the attainable items, you can look forward to World Bosses, Storm’s Fury Event, Primal Storms, Mythic Dungeons, and the first raid instance Vault of the Incarnates. Moreover, participation in the instances and events above can earn you various rewards through weekly objectives in The Great Vault.

Those who have been playing Dragonflight rightfully expected Outlaw Rogue to appear on this list, as it usually places first across the charts. Not only this class performs well across all PvE content, but unlike other Rogue specializations, the Outlaw talent tree is less complicated and, therefore, more enjoyable for those who decide to play the Rogue.

The title for the best AoE damage specialization goes to Balance Druid. Additionally, the Druid sustains steady damage while standing still and moving across the field, making it the most balanced ranged DPS.

Even though Demon Hunters dropped from first place in the damage chart, they still uphold a solid place among melee DPS. Demon Hunters can sustain decent damage while standing still as well as while being mobile. Moreover, Havoc Demon Hunter is one of the game's most dynamic and easiest classes, making it an ideal class to play, especially for new players. 

Although Windwalkers’ effectiveness is one of the best in the game as they deal overall consistent damage, their weak spot comes when they stand still. However, they do incredibly well while on the move, so during Mythics they manage to maintain their DPS in comparison to the other classes.

Arcane Mage consistently ranks among the top five DPSs and stays ahead of all other Mage specializations. The arcane talent tree underwent many changes and offers far greater variation than the two-button rotation of the past. If the combat allows for Mage to stand still at one spot, the damage dealt often reaches the top of the chart. The damage diminishes when they need to keep moving and follow more mobile mechanics.

Subtlety build is characterized by flexible and rewarding damage bursts. Its unique gameplay depends on the alignment of short cooldowns with complex resource implementation, providing the players with rewarding damage bursts.

Another viable melee class that performs impressively well in Heroics and Mythic raids is Unholy Deathknight. This class is perfect for those who like to incorporate big bursts of damage and AoE gameplay.  However, while playing Unholy Deathknight, it is necessary to learn how to time the cooldowns properly. 

The last pick on our list of best DPS classes belongs to Enhancement Shaman. Enhancement specialization offers serious single-target damage and lots of instant damage bursts. In addition, Shaman employs totems that grant extra bonuses for the whole party and often improve melee performance.

Unlike other DPSs, Survival Hunter must choose whether to specialize in single-target damage or AoE damage, which makes this build less viable and results in the last position in damage charts. Also, compared to other Hunter specializations, Survival’s defensive abilities suffer with incredibly long cooldowns, making the player vulnerable to greater damage.

So-known glass cannon of the World of Warcraft franchise does not perform up to expectations in Season One. The main reason behind the secondary damage in Fire Mage’s build is the inadaptability to keep the damage burst while moving across the field. Also, since the Fire Mage’s playstyle consists of low damage windows while waiting for Combustion and Rune of Power and the complex gameplay of Fire Mage while being under the effect of these bonuses, makes this specialization a tough choice to master.

Being one of the Dragonflight'smost mobile and easily manageable classes, Beastmaster’s performance stays underwhelming. While Beastmaster build excels in defensive choice, there is very little variety when it comes to offensive choice in the talent tree. This build works well while working solo, but it brings no utility to the raid groups.

Although Affliction Warlocks benefit from increased AoE potential damage, they often need to catch up and compete with the other Warlock specializations. Although Affliction Warlock has high survival abilities, it has very little to offer compared to Demonology or Destruction Warlock builds. This is the main reason why other Warlock builds are preferred, as they provide the raid groups with the same amount of utility.
