FFXIV – Crystalline Conflict Guide

In this article I will discuss what job to play, rankings, rewards and how to win in this PvP game mode.

Let’s talk about this PvP mode

One of my favorite additions to PvP in FFXIV is Crystalline Conflict. It’s fast-paced, tactical and can sometimes be chaotic. Crystalline Conflict was introduced with the Patch 6.1 update. In this game mode, teams Astra and Umbra go up against each other and the aim of the game is to transport a crystal called the Tactical Crystal to a designated location whilst battling it out with players from the other team who is also trying to gain control of the crystal. Matches get hectic, so its best to come prepared with a strategy. Teams consist of 5 players each, totaling 10 players in a match.

In order to unlock and play PvP in FFXIV as a whole, you first need to complete the level 30 quest: “A Pup No Longer.” The location depends on which Grand Company you join:

· Maelstrom: Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X: 13.0, Y: 12.0)
· Twin Adder: New Gridania (X: 9.0, Y: 11.0)
· Immortal Flames: Ul’dah – Steps of Nald (X: 8.0, Y: 8.0)

After that, you'll get access to Wolves' Den Pier, which is the PVP hub zone where you may buy PVP rewards, try out PVP-specific Job talents, and practice dueling with other players. To receive the 'The Crystal (Line's) Call' quest, speak with Gungi Zelungi in Wolves' Den Pier. The Crystalline Conflict will be ready to queue in the Duty Finder once you've read through the details. Matches have a time limit of 5 minutes and you need to be Job level 30 to participate. Bare in mind that if you abandon a Crystalline Conflict match you will receive a penalty. Players who have been penalized will be unable to use the Duty Finder for 30 minutes. If you are inactive for more than 2 minutes you will be removed from play.

Arenas

Crystalline Conflict matches ususally take place in one of the following three arenas:

1.The Palaistra
2.The Volcanic Heart
3.Cloud Nine

The current arena available for casual and ranked matches rotates according to Earth time. Each arena has specific events that can change the dynamics of the match.

1.The Palaistra – This arena features Sprint Zones which grant the effect of Swift Speed which greatly increases movement speed.

2.The Volcanic Heart – This arena features two dynamic features. Sprint Zones and Eruption. Eruption will cause self-destructing bombs to spawn across the field. If you fail to avoid the explosion radius, you will take damage.

3.Cloud Nine – Cloud Nine features jump glyphs that will rapidly transport you to a specific location on the field and Turbulence which will cast you into the air and cause you to take fall damage unless you acquire a black Chocobo feather which will allow you to land safely. You can avoid being launched into the air by using Guard.

Rules

· Chat – In-game chat is restricted during casual and ranked Crystalline Conflict matches. Feel free to use Quick Chat to communicate.
· Restrictions - The use of the following is prohibited while participating in Crystalline Conflict: Class or job changes, Chocobo companions, Mounts, Teleportation, Return, Items and Gear Changes.

Ranks

In Crystalline Conflict, you can queue for either ranked or casual mode; the latter allows you to play unranked, while the former lets you to climb the ranked ladder by fighting against players of similar skill levels. Each of the six tiers (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Crystal) is broken into levels called risers, with Bronze 1, 2, 3, and so on. When you win a match, you gain one star and go up the risers; when you lose, you fall back. PvP rankings in FFXIV are divided into seasons, with varied awards based on where you finish.

Rewards

No matter whether you play in Ranked or Casual, finishing Crystalline Conflict matches rewards you with PVP EXP, Series EXP, and Wolf Marks.

Here’s an outline of the payout you get from Crystalline Conflict matches:

· Series XP – A win awards 900 Series XP and a loss grants 700 Series XP
· PVP XP – A win awards 500 PvP XP and a loss grants 250 PvP XP.
· Wolf Marks – A win awards 500 Wolf Marks and a loss grants 250 Wolf Marks.

Best jobs for Crystalline Conflict

1.The first job I would recommend playing as, is Melee DPS. Because zoning is crucial to success, this job offer a distinct advantage over others. To defend yourself, you must occupy a limited area. As a result, ranged professions will have a harder time achieving the game's goal. Because it's a fast-paced game mode, jobs with no casting delays have an edge. In this sort of game style, the Reaper, Monk, and Samurai, for example, excel.

2.If you are wanting to play a tank, use the Warrior. It's not only simple to pick up, but it can also deal a lot of damage while healing with Blood whetting, and it can even be used as a utility pick because of its stun ability. It has the potential to become a formidable killing machine once perfected and with effective team communication. In a scenario like Crystalline Conflict, the Warrior virtually has everything it needs to be powerful. All other tanking jobs have their advantages, but they lack the Warrior's durability and utility.

3.Healers play a very special role Crystalline Conflict, especially in ranked matches. And there is none other than the White Mage that I would recommend. Healers are less successful in Casual Matches than a DPS (Check our Best DPS for Raids guide to know more info) with a utility boost. However, in ranked games, especially at a high level, their utility makes them indispensable to the squad. As a result, you might want to alter your playstyle to the level of commitment you're willing to put into this PvP game mode. The White Mage is a healer job that perfectly exemplifies this playstyle. It has various healing abilities, but it can also deal a lot of damage with Afflatus Misery and provide utility to its teammates with Limit Break. It's also the simplest to learn, as you'll need to be familiar with the other healing jobs to bring them in.

Conclusion

What do you think of this PvP mode that was added? I, myself have been enjoying it. Games are only 5 minutes long, they’re intricate and you need some tactical strategy to win. If you wish to participate in this game mode or find yourself struggling to pick up some wins – here are some tips you can use:

· Challenge Others to Duels in Wolves’ Den Pier to practice
· Take note of overtime
· Sprint is Infinite in PVP, Make Sure It’s On
· Use Quick Chat Buttons to Communicate
· Use Limit Breaks as many times as possible
· Use Guard to Stall an Enemies Push
· Understand and learn each maps Events
· Sprint is Infinite in PVP, Make Sure It’s On
· Look out for Medicine kits. They restore 30,000HP and respawn after a short time.
