FFXIV Keybound Brawler Event Guide: How to Unlock, Rewards & MGC Costs

Final Fantasy XIV's Keybound Brawler event arrives on October 28, 2026, bringing a Final Fantasy VII Remake collaboration to the Manderville Gold Saucer. This time, you will not need a raid group, a new gear set, or a complicated rotation. Keybound Brawler is a typing minigame for up to four players, with exclusive glamour, a Magitek Scorpion mount, and other rewards to collect. If you are also planning your wider expansion budget, SSEGold offers FFXIV Gil.

The good news is that the event does not require endgame progression. You need a level 15 character, access to the Gold Saucer, and a physical keyboard. Here is how to unlock FFXIV Keybound Brawler, which rewards deserve your MGC first, and what to know before the event begins.

When Does FFXIV Keybound Brawler Start?

Square Enix has scheduled Keybound Brawler to begin on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 1:00 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time. That is 4:00 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time and 8:00 a.m. GMT.

The first collaboration runs until the release of Patch 8.0. Square Enix says Keybound Brawler will return as a special event at irregular intervals after this collaboration ends, but it has not announced a fixed schedule for those returns.

The important detail is that MGC can only be earned and exchanged during the event period. Do not assume you can save the currency for a later run.

What Is Keybound Brawler?

Keybound Brawler is a new typing attraction in the Manderville Gold Saucer, inspired by the Final Fantasy VII Remake series. Players use a keyboard to take on the challenge, with support for up to four participants.

It is a welcome change of pace for anyone who spends most of their time in dungeons, raids, or roulettes. You can chase the collaboration rewards without working through an endgame gear grind.

There is one restriction worth checking before you travel to the Gold Saucer. A keyboard is required. Gamepads and on-screen keyboards are not supported, so console players who normally use a controller will need a compatible physical keyboard.

How to Unlock Keybound Brawler

The unlock process is straightforward, but returning players who have not visited the Gold Saucer in a while may need to finish an older quest first.

  1. Reach level 15 with a Disciple of War or Disciple of Magic job.

  2. Complete the required early main scenario quest for your starting city.

  3. Accept It Could Happen to You from the Well-heeled Youth in Ul'dah, Steps of Nald, at X:9.6, Y:9.0.

  4. Travel to the Manderville Gold Saucer and accept the limited-time quest Keyward Bound from the Catlike Mammet at X:5.4, Y:7.0.

  5. Play Keybound Brawler and exchange your MGC with the MGC Trader in Keybound Square at X:6.2, Y:6.0.

If you already have Gold Saucer access, you can skip the initial unlock work and check for Keyward Bound when the event opens.

FFXIV Keybound Brawler Rewards and MGC Costs

The reward list includes Tifa-inspired Avalanche Brawler gear, Barret-inspired Avalanche Leader gear, music rolls, a minion, an emote, and the Magitek Scorpion mount.

The full Avalanche Brawler outfit costs 1,570 MGC. The Avalanche Leader clothing and accessories cost 1,760 MGC, excluding the separately listed Gatling Gun. Collecting every listed reward requires 6,380 MGC.

The Magitek Scorpion Identification Key is an obvious target for mount collectors at 430 MGC. If you care more about character appearance, decide which outfit you want before spending your credits on smaller collectibles.

You can also browse the FFXIV items at SSEGold for general item-related options, but remember that the event's exclusive rewards are obtained through its own MGC exchange.

Which Rewards Should You Get First?

There is no single priority list that suits every player. I would make the decision based on what you actually collect rather than trying to buy everything immediately.

  • Mount collectors should consider the Magitek Scorpion Identification Key first.

  • Glamour fans can budget 1,570 MGC for the complete Avalanche Brawler outfit or 1,760 MGC for the Avalanche Leader clothing and accessories.

  • Minion collectors can set aside 260 MGC for Wind-up Barret.

  • Music collectors can pick up the three Orchestrion Rolls for 190 MGC each.

  • Completionists should aim for the full 6,380 MGC total.

The official event page confirms the prices, but it does not establish a guaranteed MGC payout per run. Until the event is live and the rewards can be tested, it is better not to promise a specific number of runs or a fastest farming method.

If you want to prepare for the next expansion beyond this event, our FFXIV Patch 7.5 Gil guide covers general Gil planning.

What Happens After the Event?

Keybound Brawler is the first part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake collaboration in FFXIV. The initial event is available before Patch 8.0, while Square Enix has confirmed that Keybound Brawler will return at irregular intervals after the first collaboration ends.

That does not mean you should ignore the current event. MGC is temporary, and the reward exchange is only available during the event period. If you have your eye on the Magitek Scorpion, the Avalanche outfits, or Wind-up Barret, plan your target total and spend the currency before the window closes.

For now, the checklist is simple: unlock the Gold Saucer, complete Keyward Bound, bring a physical keyboard, and decide which rewards matter most. Check the official Keybound Brawler page for any changes before you start.

See you at the Gold Saucer.
