September 22, 2026 — Dune: Awakening launches on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Funcom CEO Rui Casais calls this the "second launch" and a "major milestone," marking the game's expansion from PC to consoles after over a year of post-launch development.

Key details:

• PS5 physical disc edition ships the same day, distributed by Bandai Namco Entertainment Europe (Europe/Australia/New Zealand) and Solutions 2 GO Inc. (North/South America). Japan retail release expected in October.

• Xbox Game Pass available on day one.

• Xbox Play Anywhere supported — shared progression and cross-play between Xbox and Microsoft Store PC.

• Performance Mode targets 60fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X (PS5 Pro delivers native 60fps; base consoles use frame generation). Quality Mode locks at 30fps.

• Also supports ROG Xbox Ally, Xbox Cloud Gaming, Steam Deck, and GeForce Now.

Cross-Play Limitations

Major New Features

1. Full Single-Player Mode — The most requested feature since launch. The entire game — open world, main story, Deep Desert — can be played entirely solo. In single-player, the map never resets, buildings are never wiped, and the Coriolis Storm remains as a weather event but is less destructive. The Landsraad endgame simulates rival AI factions to keep political conflict alive without real players.

2. Scalable Difficulty — In single-player and private servers, you can adjust harvesting rates, XP gain, combat difficulty, sandstorm toggles, resource multipliers, building limits, durability settings, death-drop rules, base decay settings, and more. You can even disable sandworms entirely for a relaxed experience.

3. Book One Story Finale — The final act of Book One arrives on September 22, allowing players to experience the complete cinematic storyline from start to finish for the first time.

4. Fully Optional PvP — Based on telemetry showing 80–90% of players stuck to PvE, Funcom made PvP completely optional. The entire game, including the Deep Desert and Landsraad faction conflict, can be played in full PvE. PvP Deep Desert instances still offer stronger resource yields for those who want the risk.

5. One Year of PC Updates Baked In — Console players get 15+ major updates and 4 DLC packs on day one. New Overland Map locations include Smuggler's Run, Blushing Caverns, The Old Quarry, Tsimpo, and Wind Pass. 1. Choosing Your Starting Class

Four starting classes are available: Bene Gesserit, Trooper, Mentat, and Swordmaster. A fifth class, Planetologist, unlocks later through progression.

Your starting class is permanent, but skill trees can be reset. You can eventually learn skills from other classes (takes 500+ hours to fully cross-class). Pick what fits your playstyle early on.

2. Water Management — Your Top Survival Priority

Dehydration kills faster than any enemy on Arrakis.

• Early game: Collect dew from flowers for small hydration boosts

• Mid game: Craft a Blood Extractor and Blood Purifier — kill enemies (scavengers, bandits), collect blood packs, and purify them into drinkable water

• Late game: Invest in a water farm for a steady supply

• Carry water in Literjons (canteens); store larger quantities in Cisterns (tanks)

• When hydration drops below 1/3, stamina decreases. At zero, you start losing health

• Monitor the sun exposure gauge — high sun exposure accelerates dehydration. Seek shade to recover

3. Sandworm Survival

Sandworms are unkillable. Being swallowed means losing everything in your inventory — a devastating setback.

• Stick to rocky terrain — worms only detect vibrations on sand

• Watch the sandworm vibration gauge on your HUD

• Avoid dashing or jumping on sand (creates more noise)

• Drum Sand — red-marked patches that emit loud thumps. Avoid or cross quickly

• If on your sandbike and a worm attacks: jump off — the worm will target the vehicle, giving you time to reach rocks

• Never carry your most valuable items across open sand unless you have a death wish

4. Base Building

• Build on rock, never on sand — sandstorms will destroy foundations on sand

• Set up near trading posts for easy material access and resource hotspots

• Keep your first base small and functional — you'll be asked to relocate as the story progresses

• Essentials: storage chests, crafting stations, blood purifier, water tanks

• Use the Solido Replicator to copy your building layout and quickly rebuild when relocating

• Monitor your generator capacity — exceeding it shuts down all machines. Add more generators or turn off non-essential devices

5. The Sandbike — Your Essential Vehicle

Dramatically speeds up travel and resource hauling across the desert.

• Complete early quests and gather parts from Outposts and Imperial Testing Stations (especially Station 2) to craft your first sandbike

• Always store it inside your base or use the Vehicle Backup Tool when not in use

• Sandstorms will destroy parked bikes left outside

• Carry Fuel Cells, Repair Wire, and the Backup Tool at all times

• Use the bike to haul loot from distant locations — but stay alert for worms

6. Combat Tips

Melee Combat:

• Parrying is essential — time your blocks to parry; flawless blocks stun enemies

• Against shielded foes, use slow blade strikes to slip through energy shields

• The Hajra Literjon dagger bleeds blood packs per hit — perfect for maintaining water supply during combat

Ranged Weapons:

• Start with the Maula Pistol, then upgrade to the Carp 38 rifle

• Conserve ammo early — focus on melee until you have a reliable ammunition supply

• Use terrain for cover; avoid standing in the open

Threats to Watch For:

• Sardaukar patrols hunt at night with spotlights. If caught, retreat — they call for reinforcements

• Enemy dropships at night provide bonus loot and XP for confident players

• Other players in PvP zones — always assess before engaging

7. Exploration & Leveling

• Follow the main questline — it guides you through key areas, unlocks crafting recipes, and introduces mechanics gradually

• Explore Points of Interest (POIs) — they contain loot, blueprints, and research points

• Gather everything — picking up resources grants XP, so mine/harvest along your travel routes

• Craft binoculars early to reveal concealed locations from afar

• Use Survey Probes to mark POIs and plan efficient routes

• Visit Outposts to grab intel folders (research points) and blood packs (water)

• Watch for special events like nighttime enemy dropships for bonus XP and loot

8. Mid-Game Progression

• Unlock Professions: Planetologist (harvester specialist, found near Hagga Basin) and advanced Trooper training

• Craft Suspensor Belts (Emperor's Wings) for double jumps and hovering — combine with Bene Gesserit Dash for exceptional mobility

• Invest in a stillsuit to reduce water consumption

• End-game weapons and armor require rare materials from dungeons (Imperial Testing Stations)

• The Deep Desert offers the best resources but also the highest risk — enter prepared

Should I do the tutorial? Yes — it teaches crafting, combat, and water management, making the early game much smoother.
