Dark and Darker Ultimate Beginner's Guide

Welcome to the ultimate beginner guide for Dark and Darker! Get ready to immerse yourself in the dark and treacherous world of this gripping game. From character classes and mechanics to dungeon exploration and loot strategies, this Dark and Darker beginner's guide has got you covered.

Whether you're new to the genre or looking to sharpen your skills, we'll provide you with expert tips and insights to conquer the shadows. Let’s begin with something pretty basic and important…

Choose your Dark and Darker class

Dark And Darker features a total of six classes: Fighter, Barbarian, Ranger, Rogue, Cleric, and Wizard. Each class offers a unique playstyle and mechanics, giving you plenty of options to choose from.

To start your adventure, we recommend going for the Fighter class. It's a versatile all-rounder with no specific strengths or weaknesses, making it the perfect choice for getting the hang of the game. As a Fighter, you can wield any weapon you find and rely on a handy shield to crush skeletons and fend off those pesky flying skulls.

Once you've become familiar with the basics of movement, combat, looting, and if you're lucky, extracting, you'll be ready to explore the other classes and discover their exciting features.

Required Skills in Dark and Darker

No need to stress about armor and weapons just yet, but you can already pick a perk, a fancy word for a passive ability, and two skills (those are the ones you activate yourself) to get things rolling. To unleash your skills, just hit the Q and E buttons.

When you're hanging out in the lobby, head on over to the Class tab and locate the Perk and Skill menu. Each class comes with its own set of unique abilities, but it's generally smart to start off with a healing ability (if you've got one) and something that amps up your damage temporarily. For all you Fighter folks out there, Second Wind is an incredibly handy skill to get you started on your badass journey.

Dark and Darker Maps and Gameloops

Currently, Dark and Darker offers the following maps for your adventures. First up is The Forgotten Castle, a fantastic option for groups of one to three players. This map features normal loot drops, setting the stage for epic quests and thrilling battles. Next, we have The Goblin Caves, a similar experience to The Forgotten Castle, but exclusively designed for solo players.

It's your chance to conquer the caves and claim all the glory for yourself. And if you're feeling like a high roller, we've got the 'High-Roller' version of The Forgotten Castle. This one comes with an entrance fee but offers even better loot for those daring enough to take on the challenge.

Now, let's talk about the game's core mechanics. If you're new to extraction shooters, don't worry! The concept is fundamentally simple: you'll enter a dungeon, trial, or run (you'll find different names for it online), face off against monsters and NPCs, compete with other players for valuable loot, and, hopefully, make a successful extraction with all the loot you've acquired.

In Dark and Darker, your character doesn't permanently disappear when you die (phew!), but there's a catch—you'll lose all the loot you were carrying. Fear not, though! You can sell your hard-earned loot to Merchants on the main menu in exchange for Dark and Darker gold, potions, buffs, and gear. These resources are crucial for tackling the game's more challenging levels, but we'll delve into that topic a bit later.

Dark and Darker Dungeons

In Dark and Darker, the concept is simple yet spine-chilling. You'll find yourself dropped into a haunting dungeon, teeming with enemies. Your mission? Scavenge for precious loot and make a daring escape through a portal before the timer ticks down to zero. But beware, should your character meet an unfortunate demise, all your hard-earned loot will be lost.

Keep a close eye on the lower right corner of your screen, just above the minimap. That's where you'll find the timer, ticking away relentlessly. As time passes, the safe zone, indicated by a white circle, gradually shrinks, while the Death Swarm area, depicted in menacing red, expands. Stepping into the Death Swarm territory spells trouble, as your health will steadily dwindle.

As you venture further into the heart of the map, keep your eyes peeled for portal stones. These magical gateways hold your ticket to salvation. Choose wisely, though! The blue portals transport you to safety, while the red ones plunge you into an even more treacherous dungeon floor. As a newcomer, it's highly recommended to opt for the blue portal and play it safe.

Tips for the Dark and Darker Beginners

I've got some beginner tips to help you navigate the shadows and make your mark in the game:
1. Gear up and stay alert: As you spawn into Dark and Darker, you'll start with the basic gear for your chosen class. Keep an eye on the top right corner of your screen for the map. Pay attention to the ring that will appear on it later—it functions like a Battle Royale, gradually shrinking in size. Remember, staying outside the ring inflicts damage, so be mindful of your position.

2. Explore the dark depths: The map is filled with corridors, open rooms, secret passageways, boss rooms, traps, and other treacherous surprises. The game lives up to its name with its eerie darkness. Equip a torch by pressing 3 on your keyboard, and be thorough in checking corners, room centers, and hidden spots for loot, traps, or lurking enemy Rogues.

3. Tune in to sound: Sound is your ally in Dark and Darker. Listen closely for footsteps, pot smashing, door openings, and other sound cues that add to the intense atmosphere. Beware, as if you can hear them, they can hear you too. Headphones are highly recommended to immerse yourself fully in the experience.

4. Silence your steps: To reduce the sound of your own footsteps, you can take off your shoes. This can give you a stealth advantage while maneuvering through the dungeons.

5. Seek out hidden treasures: Loot awaits in pots, barrels, and secret areas. Smash them with your primary weapon to reveal their contents. Don't forget to check bookcases for secret book levers, walls for hidden levers, and the floor for pressure plates that might unlock secret passages.

6. Study enemy patterns: Take the time to observe and memorize enemy patterns. Each enemy in the game follows specific behavior (though it may change in harder levels). Understanding their movements and attack patterns will give you an edge in combat.

7. Prioritize your health: Health is crucial for survival. Look out for Health Shrines scattered throughout the dungeons, as they can replenish your health. Alternatively, consider choosing a class with a healing ability, such as the Fighter, Barbarian, or Cleric, or stock up on health potions for emergencies.

8. Team up wisely: If you're playing with friends, having a Cleric in your party can be a game-changer. A dedicated healer can provide invaluable support to keep your team in fighting shape.

Ending Note

We hope this ultimate beginners guide has equipped you with the knowledge and confidence to embark on your journey in Dark and Darker.
